God Leads In This Dark Place

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It’s packed with some amazing information and instruction. One line is part of the Christian pledge. “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

During this year of Covid-19 (It’s January 26, 2021 and we’ve been on this road a very long time). During this year of elections (2020) with a divided and confused country. After coming out of elections and watching as powers try to jockey for leadership roles. As governors of individual states seemingly lord their power over their residents. As foreign countries watch on and make lateral power moves. Globally and regionally this world is in a dark place.

During this bleak mid-winter Psalm 119 comes to mind. It says God’s word is a lamp to our feet. That’s refreshing! That one line means that He is our guide. It may be dark out there but His Word shines brightly enough for us to take that next step.

Anyone who has used a lamp to walk in the darkness knows that lamps and lanterns only shine so far. They provide just enough light for us to take those next few steps. In other words God never said He was going to shine a light into our future so that we will know all that He sees. We have just enough information, just enough sight onto the path to take that next step. To trust in Him, to follow where He leads.

The late James Montgomery Boice says: “We are not to be anxious about the unknown future or to fret about it. We are to live in a moment-by-moment dependence upon God.” I like that. It seems to imply what Psalm 119 teaches.

Psalm 119 is a small reminder from God’s very BIG Word (the Bible) that no matter how dark it gets out there, that God has and will provide a way for us. His Word is a lamp unto our feet.

Have you ever ventured out into a dark place without even the smallest light? If you have, then you know what it’s like to finally have a light that clearly lights your path. Praise God for the light He shines into our lives and for illuminating the Way!

Pastor Erwin Lutzer says “The worse things get the louder God is shouting asking us to turn to Him.” So, follow.

I love you kids! May God bless you! Psalm 119:105!
